This gathering will be held on Zoom. Message us for the link or watch for it in this week’s E-Announcements.

Black Leaders in the United Church of Canada are urging predominantly white Christians and churches to commitment ourselves to anti-racism as part of our collective call to be the church.

In this time of dialogue, we will read together the powerful words of Adele Halliday and The Rev. Paul Douglas Walfall as recently published in Broadview online and the The United Church of Canada “Round The Table Blog”.

What I need from white people right now

Both of these pieces are powerful, concise, and accessible, please take the time to read them in advance of these events as they will root our conversations in the words and convictions of our Black Siblings, allowing their words to guide we who are white into this work, and challenging us to confront our own barriers and blind-spots.

We recognize that this can be an uncomfortable and unsettling conversation, and some may find speaking of such things intimidating, worrying that we will say the wrong thing or be criticized for a lack of “woke-ness”.

As such, we will seek that this evening’s conversation be a safe(r) space in which we are each invited and challenged to own our feelings and seek to make space for our learning while being accountable to one another and to the call to justice we have heard from our beloved siblings in the United Church.

Brew yourself a cup of tea, light a candle, and join us as we seek to learn and grow in our capacity to seek justice, and resist evil.

God is with us. We are not Alone. Thanks be to God.
