Christmas & Advent
The Season of Advent and Christmas are very special times of the year at Knox-Metropolitan. Our sanctuary gets decorated, we play host to several concerts and special events, and during worship we offer prayers for Hope, Peace, Joy & Love. Then on Christmas Eve Knox-Met holds three services full of meaning, story and tradition.
The exact dates may change from year to year, but below lays out some of Knox-Met’s programs throughout December. You can also check our Events page for more information or other special programming.
Sunday Mornings
Throughout Advent (which starts 4 Sundays before Christmas) we will share communion, share in a Children’s Sunday, enjoy familiar music through Lessons and Carols, and through it all prepare ourselves for Christmas.
Special Events
Since 1940 Knox-Met has played host to the Rotary Carol Festival. This typically takes place during the first week in December. The Regina Symphony Orchestra performs Handel’s Messiah during the month and several other groups including the Regina Philharmonic Chorus, Queen City Brass, and the South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra hold wonderful concerts, full of music and tradition in the Knox-Met sanctuary.
Longest Night of the Year Service
A chance to embrace complicated feelings that may arise at this time of year like grief, loss, and loneliness. This simple service of music, candles, prayers and silence is an important space to honour the emotional paradoxes within our own hearts.
Christmas Eve
On December 24 we gather as a community to share in singing, readings, prayers, and communion as we celebrate the birth of the Christ-child.
